Game Changers Barber Academy – Giving Back

Haven for Hope is fortunate to have many volunteers and organizations providing services for our clients experiencing homelessness.

Game Changers Barber Academy started bringing their students to Haven twice a week back in September 2023. Owner Mike Ramirez said it’s important for his students to gain practical experience during barber school and to give back to the community.

Clients often come in for a haircut prior to a job interview, or stop in for a fresh cut and/or shave. It boosts their confidence and they get a chance to connect with the barbers. Some come regularly and continue going to Game Changer Barber shops when they leave Haven.

“It’s special when a client comes in and tells us they are moving into housing,” said Ramirez. “We get to know the clients and hear about their lives and experiences.”

On April 17, 2026, the Game Changers Academy barbers reached a milestone: their 5,000th haircut at Haven. “We don’t plan on stopping anytime soon,” Ramirez said.

Local ABC affiliate, KSAT 12, was on hand to interview Ramirez and share this milestone with the community.
